When most people think of Tango, they think of Tango Argentino, and some may dream of actually experiencing it in the bars of Buenos Aires. It is certainly an unforgettable experience. But Tango is also danced in Europe.

In our workshop we want to practise posture and first steps with you, particularly to European Tango melodies, which have their own sound. We will also play Argentinean tangos to discover similarities and differences.

Originally, the term ” Tango” was used to describe festivals held by enslaved blacks in Buenos Aires and Montevideo to the sound of drums and kettledrums. In its further development, it was strongly influenced by indigenous, but also by European, and particularly Spanish and Italian, as well as Cuban elements.

The distinctive characteristic of Tango is that it involves no fixed sequence of steps but thrives on spontaneity and improvisation. In this way, each couple can dance to each piece of music individually. For this to work, the correct posture, knowledge of possible steps and clear communication between the dance partners are important.
