Who runs the EU? The present and future of European legislation

In this workshop, we aim to begin by providing participants with an overview of the key EU institutions and their roles: How is power distributed amongst the various institutions? Who actually governs the EU? Is it even possible to give a clear answer to this question? And if not, what does that mean for the EU’s democratic legitimacy? In a second step, we will then put forward the idea of developing the EU into a European federal state for discussion. Could this model be a vision for the future of the European project and contribute to the emergence of a genuine European democracy?

Using artificial intelligence as an example, we want to discuss how future challenges can be tackled at EU level. How can citizens have a say in Europe?

The workshop is being held in cooperation with the Berlaymont Project of JEF Hessen.
