We’ll visit a former refugee shelter in Kassel’s Nordstadt district, which the Hessian Advisory Board for Refugees has rated as one of the few in Hesse to be particularly valuable. The shelter’s former director will discuss developments in refugee assistance over the past 10 years and share his on-the-ground experiences. He’ll be joined by a young former resident of the shelter.
Afterward, in the building’s group room, we’ll ask ourselves questions such as: Why are shelters evaluated so differently? What conditions should refugees encounter in order to be open to integrating into a society where rejection is also evident? What experiences exist in this regard in other European countries?
We are very much looking forward to this exchange and to hearing both shared and differing perspectives on the topics of displacement, migration, and integration.
