ON THE TRAIL OF EUROPEAN CULTURAL HISTORY IN THE BERGPARK WILHELMSHÖHE.
Several small groups of 3 to 4 people will visit the mountain park on a trail of discovery. The workshop leader will be at hand to offer guiding questions and provide pointers so that the journey of discovery always leads to small moments of success. Questions will be asked about the most important “influencing actors” of the magnificent Park’s overall work of art (UNESCO-World Heritage Site since 2013). Four countries, in very different eras, play the key role: Greece, Italy, France and England.
The central question of the excursion: Which monuments and small buildings display traces of the influence that these countries have had? In this way, we learn to differentiate between various stylistic features in the cultural-historical language of form, using the respective object as a concrete example. The underlying historical motives and political interests of the “cultural imports” are discussed and brought “step by step”, so to speak, into a systematic context by the workshop leader.
Everyone should enjoy walking as we will be heading uphill for several hours. We will be spending most of the time outdoors, so sturdy shoes and wind and rain jackets are essential. A snack lunch will be served after about 2.5 hours, so please bring water bottles and snacks for the road! Travel costs, lunch and entrance fees will be paid or reimbursed by the workshop leader (against proof of purchase).
