The EU has not only made the fight against disinformation a priority but has also enshrined it in its laws. Through the Digital Services Act, the EU aims to hold providers of very large online platforms accountable for creating a trustworthy online environment. However, this initiative faces significant opposition from the U.S. government and major tech corporations. A major point of contention is the interpretation and practice of freedom of speech, which differs between the EU and the U.S.
In this interactive workshop, we will explore hotly debated questions: Where is the line between meaningful regulation and censorship? What role does freedom of speech play in the transatlantic context? And what future scenarios are possible?
The workshop will take place on September 12th, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, at Kolpinghaus (Die Freiheit 2, 34117 Kassel).
